Update 2008

Attention all bikers !

With the weather changing and the evenings getting longer, thoughts are turning towards using the other three gears in the bike and long rides in the summer weather. Our group have been involved in a fully organized transnational charitable motorcycle fun run for a number of years. 2008 sees us setting up to do it again. The general idea has been to have a group of likeminded individuals complete a motorcycle trip from Dublin to Galway and back. Thus far all of our runs have been successful and safe and we have exceeded in in all of our objectives.

Experience being the best teacher, we have used ours to make the trip as safe and enjoyable as possible, the key to this being preparation. To this end we have a dedicated team who organise the event. Everything from the departure to the route is planned ahead and checked prior to the weekend. The run itself is fully marshaled both ways to ensure the group remains safe and united; "little things like pre-arranged fuel stops, meeting points and support and recovery vehicles en route make all the difference allowing the drivers to enjoy the ride". Once everyone arrives in Galway, (intact), there is entertainment arranged for the Saturday night before the trip back Sunday morning.

Obviously travellers are free to make whatever arrangements they wish where accommodation is concerned, (although various B&Bs are listed with the information on our website - see here). The A.A.I crew does book a certain number of rooms ahead but these are on a first come first served basis. Whilst the emphasis of the weekend is on safely enjoying everything a motorcycle has to offer, there is a serious side to Annual Across Ireland. The run is an opportunity to raise money for worthy charities. This year our selected charity is 'Make A Wish' Foundation. Our efforts to raise money add a dimension to the weekend which is both needed and appreciated.

On the subject of sponsorship it should be mentioned that the run could not go ahead without the help of our own sponsors. We are lucky to have on board a number of committed business interests. If the idea of a cross county convoy for a good cause isn't enough for your biker buzz remember there's a party, entertainment and prizes all involved .
